10 Years of Utilus

2016

Launch of Utilus

Tobias Kuipers and Rolf Bonninga founded Utilus with the goal of developing complex software solutions for mission-critical environments. The name Utilus is derived from the Latin word “utilis,” meaning useful, practical, and serviceable. Tobias, founder and CTO of Software Improvement Group (SIG), and Rolf, commercial manager at SIG, are laying the foundation with Utilus for a technology company that prioritizes software quality and reliability.

2017

Launch of a Long-Term Partnership with the Dutch Lottery

Utilus is developing and implementing an AWS gateway for Nederlandse Loterij. Following the successful delivery, a long-term partnership will be established, under which Utilus will remain responsible for servicing and managing this business-critical environment.

2020

ISO 27001 Certification

Utilus has achieved ISO 27001 certification, the international standard for information security. This formally confirms the company’s systematic focus on security, control, and the protection of information.

2021

ISAE 3402 Type II

Utilus complies with the requirements of ISAE 3402 Type II. This provides independent assurance that key internal controls are not only properly designed but also function effectively over an extended period of time.

2022

First FD Gazelles Award

Utilus is named an FD Gazelle for the first time. The award from *Het Financieele Dagblad* recognizes Utilus as one of the Netherlands’ fastest-growing companies. Utilus also receives an FD Gazelle Award in 2023 and 2024.

2023

Development of a Virtual Power Plant with Eneco

In collaboration with Eneco, Utilus is developing one of the first Virtual Power Plants (VPP) in the Netherlands. Using smart software, various energy assets are digitally connected and controlled, marking an important step toward a more flexible and sustainable energy system.

2024

Launch of ProximaRed

Utilus is launching ProximaRed, an energy management platform for the smart monitoring, optimization, and control of energy assets. With this launch, Utilus is combining its expertise in software engineering and the energy market into its own technology platform.

2026

Expansion into the public sector

Utilus is further expanding its services to the public sector. The commercial team is being bolstered by the addition of Naoufal El-Hamchaoui (Sales Director, Public Sector). With his arrival, Utilus is strengthening its focus on digital and technological issues within the public sector.

Utilus Joins the NDVE

Utilus has joined the NDVE. This membership underscores Utilus’s growing role within the Dutch energy ecosystem and its ambition to actively contribute to the digitization and acceleration of the energy transition.
